Something About Sam
By
Susette Williams
Samantha Marlow is moving on with her life after the
death of her parents.  A change of scenery is just
what she needs.  She hopes to work as a cook on
Dampier's ranch until she can prove herself a valuable ranch hand.  The only problem--she's not cooking for all the men, only one--the boss.

Jake Dampier is used to being a loner, growing up without a real family.  When you work around horses and other men who don't really talk, you don't worry about mincing words.  Frustration with a beautiful woman who has captured his heart doesn't make communicating come easier, and he's about to lose her for good if he doesn't learn to say something quick!

In SOMETHING ABOUT SAM, author Susette Williams exposes the truth of how miscommunication can drive a wedge between couples and alter the course of their future together. A good read for couples about to embark on marriage or those who need a gentle reminder to talk things out while there's still time.

--Diann Hunt, Author of Petals of Promise in the anthology THE BOUQUET

"SOMETHING ABOUT SAM is a delightful, gentle romance, whose plot complications resemble an ornate minuet, or, more appropriately, an especially involved square dance. The reader will, by turns, chuckle, groan and sigh until the satisfying ending."
Ellen Edwards Kennedy, author of IRREGARDLESS OF MURDER

Something About Sam is a great book that not only entertains, but makes you believe in the characters. The author develops the characters well and early on in the book so that you immediately feel you know them and care about what happens to them. The story is well thought out. It leads the reader through the series of events smoothly without being predictable. The way in which the story is written brings the reader along with the characters, making the book very hard to put down.

A compelling romance with a refreshing and wholesome Christian slant.  Susette Williams introduces us to her beautiful twenty-something heroine who has just lost both her parents to a tragic accident which not only leaves her heart devastated, but her financial standing ruined as well.  Samantha Marlow is left to pick up the pieces and fend for herself without warning and without money.  Samantha proves herself resourceful and tenacious as she packs up what little she has and heads out for a new home and a new start on a horse ranch in a distant town.  Having been brought up on a ranch and cooked for her family, Samantha had answered an ad for a Cook.  Upon arrival at the breathtaking sprawl, she must muster her confidence and act fast to convince the guys to keep her.  From her resume which introduces her as Sam Marlow, they had assumed they had hired a he, not a she.

Miles from the heartache of where her parents were lost to her as well as her beloved horse, Lazarus, Samantha finds herself getting her footing and in the process, falling in love with the Ranch owner, strong, handsome, hazel-eyed Jake.  It is here, on hundreds of resplendent green acres, where Susette Williams takes her readers on a journey of budding romance between Samantha and Jake.  But the trail is anything but predictable.  When Sam’s childhood friend Jonathan comes for a stay, Jake is more than a little jealous and the plot more than a little thickens.  Throw in a few more characters whose beauty, charm, and charisma shine in full glory, it’s enough to put this tale at a full gallop to the end.

With more than a few mis-assumptions on the part of her cast of characters come unexpected detours.  Williams skillfully fleshes out what can happen when communication is not clear nor timely, and when things of the heart are left unsaid for fear of rejection.  As we wend and wind our way though Something About Sam, Williams’ characters weave their way into our hearts.  In this tale of love waiting to happen, does it or doesn’t it?  Williams has knack for dialogue and a wonderful writing style that keeps you caring to find out.

This book left me glad I had picked it up.  As for Samantha and Jake?  They stayed with me well after I had put it down.

When Sam Marlow shows up to take the job as a cook for Jack Dampier under less than perfect conditions, there's something about Sam that has Jake running the other direction. Not one for long speeches in the first place, she's got him tongue tied as she begins to stir up emotions he's never felt before. Sam isn't about to let herself get hurt again, but when he kisses her unexpectedly, she finds it hard to hold onto her heart.

In a surprising twist of circumstances, just when Jake decides to follow his heart he believes Sam's fallen for another man, and he's realizes that if he doesn't say something soon, he's going to loose Sam forever. Something About Sam delivers a sweet romance with memorable characters, that goes perfect with a lazy afternoon and a hot mug of cocoa.

Lisa Harris, author of Rescuing Sidney in To Catch a Thief.
