Demi must prove her skill at hiding away a broken heart every time she flies off to rescue injured, lost, and untried climbers. There's no room for errors in judgment.
She vowed to save his life...
Suddenly the source of her broken heart is in her life again, needing his job back, and Demi must use all her strength to keep her distance from him. She believes that flying to the summit of Dead Fall without a helicopter would be easier than resisting ex-fiance Rod McCallum, the tough mountain guide who deserted her to seek his fortune in another country.
Whitney has been in the publishing business since 1991 and it shows in this book you will not be able to put down. A solid, good read which you will not be able to finish in an afternoon. The images and language used are captivating and bring to life the human drama, romance, and reality of a woman trying to keep her fathers business.
This is not your typical book. It does deal with romance and forgiveness, survival and restoration. But nothing in this book is "plugged-in" to make it marketable. Everything is well written, and well plotted.
This was my feature book of the month, and my reading for the long weekend camping trip.

Demetria "Demi" Cooper has worked hard to forget Rod McCallum. Taking over Dead Fall Mountain Rescue from her father Emil after his stroke, she has managed to get the business in the black. Even between making sure her father is well cared for, flying a helicopter on rescue missions, and dealing with employees, Demi has not been able to forget her ex-fiancé and the horrible way he left. Then one day, she receives a postcard saying, I'm coming home. Love Rod.
Following the loss of his brothers in a tragic accident, Rod could not bury his hurt and sorrow deeply enough. Leaving Demi, Emil, and the company, he took a high paying job with a shady company in a war torn country. But worst of all, he turned his back on God. Now, thinking he is too unclean to return to God, he wants from Demi what he cannot ask from the Lord: forgiveness. Demi, filled with anger, pride, and resentment, is unable to grant his wish. Will the two mend their differences, or will stubbornness stand in the way? A disaster on the mountain forces everyone to work together to offer the LAST ACT OF GRACE.
A richly woven novel, LAST ACT OF GRACE is a treat to read. Each character has a unique personality and adds to the story in a positive way. The belief and unbelief in God, and the questions the characters ask, mirror real people in believable situations. I appreciated that Christians in this book are shown as having dilemmas and high and low periods of their faith. This makes it a book for anyone, with a faith message that is subtle yet permeates every paragraph.
LAST ACT OF GRACE is the first novel Lee Emory has written as Whitney Eden. It was nominated for an Eppie Award for Best Inspirational in 2002. Curl up with a book filled with romance, relationships, and pulse pounding drama. Your heart will soar with hope as you reach the satisfying finale.
