Emily Kessel wakes up in Wialuku, Hawaii screaming after seeing her husband’s jet explodes in more vivid details than nights before. Emily came to Hawaii to investigate his murder, since the officials deemed it accidental.
She has only four leads, business associates of his: Mili Chen, Broker; Alan Polamar, Investor/Rancher; Thomas Smith, Investor/C&H Sugar CEO; Joseph Connar Goddwin IV, Investor and Philanthropist. During her first day, Emily is befriended by a ghost named Haoli Joe, mugged and almost buried alive. So what went wrong? As she continues her investigation, she gets nowhere in the clue department, but close to something that keeps her life in jeopardy. Showing up at odd times, Haoli Joe instructs her of certain dangers and insists that his and her husband’s murderers are the same despite the forty years’ difference.
Abducted from bed, Emily overhears her abductors talk about her key charm belonging to a deposit box of embezzled money. Dumped into the ocean like a sack of garbage, Emily walks through the light into a prison visiting room. Her husband appears and reprimands her, “It’s not about land and grants, but money. Always follow the money.”
Alive and well, Emily seeks help from the FBI. But in the end, she is taken to the scene of the original murders and it seems history will be repeated again.
